Work continues on the tennis courts at Cosmo-Bethel Park and will begin soon at the courts at Albert-Oakland Park. Columbia Parks and Recreation is resurfacing the courts in phases.
The courts at Albert-Oakland will be closed for resurfacing from July 10-19.
At Cosmo-Bethel Park, courts 1-8 remain closed through July 10. When the work there is completed, courts 1-8 will reopen and courts 9-12 will be closed for resurfacing. Work is expected to continue through July 19, weather permitting.
The work is being done in phases to minimize the impact to park users. Since this type of work is weather dependent, the schedule is subject to change.
Funding for the tennis courts resurfacing comes from the Park Sales Tax, which was approved by voters in 2010.
In addition to benefiting the general public, the tennis court improvements are expected to allow the University of Missouri to host the 2014 SEC Tennis Championships, bringing out-of-town visitors to Columbia and stimulating the local economy.
