C.A.R.E. Gallery Exhibiting Young Artists' Work

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The City of Columbia's C.A.R.E. Gallery trainees will display their work in an end of summer art exhibit at the PS: Gallery (1025 East Walnut) August 1-September 2. The exhibit will premier with an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. on August 1.

This exhibit showcases new work completed by the C.A.R.E. Gallery trainees over the summer.  As the art related job site for the City's C.A.R.E. Program, the gallery hires up to 15 trainees to work 20 hours per week for eight weeks. The 14-18 year old youth traditionally have the opportunity to display their work at the end of the program.

The youth have spent the summer working with visiting artists to create art chairs, ceramic and metal scukpture, tie-dye fabric, prints, and more. Proceeds from this exhibit go to fund future C.A.R.E. Gallery art projects.

The C.A.R.E. Gallery is a program of the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department with financial assistance from the City's Office of Cultural Affairs, the Missouri Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The C.A.R.E. Program (Career Awareness Related Experience) provides at-risk youth, ages 14-18, living in Columbia and/or attending Columbia Public schools with employment and educational opportunities.
