Dedication Planned for Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary and Scott's Branch Trail

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Parks and Recreation is planning a dedication of the Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary and Scott's Branch Trail. It will be held from 5-7 p.m. on April 22 at the Bonnie View shelter, 3300 W Rollins Rd.

The event will feature hot dogs, chips and beverages; kids' activities; a demonstration by the University of Missouri Raptor Rehabilitation Project; and a trail walk with the Audubon Society. The actual dedication ceremony will be held at 6 p.m.

The land for Bonnie View was donated to the City by F. Garland Russell Sr on behalf of the Russell family. An interested parties meeting was held in 2009 and focus group meetings were held throughout 2010 to gather input for the property. Funding in the amount of $300,000 for development of Bonnie View was approved in the 2005 Park Sales Tax ballot initiative.

The Scott's Branch Trail begins at Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary and leads to Scott Boulevard. The trail is a valuable connector for Columbia's trail system which provides access to neighborhoods surrounding Fairview Elementary School, as well as a safe route to school for Fairview students. As with Bonnie View, the Scott's Branch Trail was funded by the Park Sales Tax.
