Celebrate National Park and Recreation Month with Columbia Parks and Recreation this July! The month has been designated as such by the National Recreation and Park Association, and will be celebrated by local parks and recreation departments throughout the country.
Parks and Recreation will kick off the month with a recreation parklet in front of the Gentry Building at 1 South 7th Street on July 1. Anyone who drops by during the day will be entered into a drawing for great prizes, including ARC passes, City pool coupon books and golf passes. Frozen treats will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or while supplies last. In addition, anyone who signs up for the Splat junior obstacle course mud run will receive 10 percent off their registration price.
This year's National Park and Recreation Month theme, "OUT is IN," encourages individuals, families, friends and coworkers to do something outside each day that they would normally do inside. From eating lunch in the park instead of sitting inside, or even holding a meeting outside, there are small ways you can make going OUT part of your daily routine.
