GetAbout Columbia, in partnership with the Columbia Fire Department, will be offering cyclists an opportunity to license a bicycle at the North Village Farmers and Artisans Market, 126 N. 10th St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Free taillights will also be given away (while supplies last).
Licensing a bicycle in the City of Columbia is free and required by City Ordinance 14-494. Registering a bicycle serial number allows law enforcement to return stolen bikes to their rightful owners. Licensing also aids in the identification of the bicycle owner in case of a crash.
Bicycle licenses can be obtained at all Columbia Fire Stations year-round. Call GetAbout Columbia at 874-7460 for additional information.
Funding for GetAbout Columbia is provided by the Federal Highway Administration's Non-Motorized Transportation Program.
