Youth Intro to Track Meet Planned

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Parks and Recreation's annual Youth Intro to Track meet will be held on April 18 at Hickman High School's track. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with the meet starting at 10 a.m. This meet was previously known as the Hershey Track and Field Meet.

This free event is a great introduction to track and field activities for both boys and girls. Participants must be born between 2001 and 2009.

Participants can choose from these events: dashes of 100, 200, 400 meters; runs of 800 and 1600 meters; 4x100 meter relay; standing long jump and softball throw. Participants may enter a maximum of three events, with the exception of the relay.  

Some events are only available for certain age groups. Kids between the ages of 6 and 8 can only enter the 400 meter dash, softball throw, and standing long jump. No track spikes, cleats, or shoes that accept spikes will be allowed. Only soft-soled shoes will be allowed. Top three finishers of each event will earn ribbons.

Registration form and a copy of birth certificate/baptismal record should be turned in by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 to the downtown Parks & Recreation office (1 S. 7th St.) or the Armory Sports Center (701 E. Ash St.).  Registrations may be faxed to 874-7640 or scan it & email to [email protected]create new email. Walk-up registrations will not be available at the meet.
