Boys and girls are invited to participate in the free, local Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition. It is being organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation and will be held at the Cosmo-Bethel Park ball field on April 25.
Registration and warm-up begins at 9:30 a.m. and the event will start at 10 a.m. It's free and open to boys and girls ages 7-14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2015.
This is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. Winners will advance to the Sectional competition in Jefferson City. Sectional winners will earn the opportunity to be selected to participate in the Team Championships at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The final level of competition concludes at the 2015 MLB All-Star Game in Cincinnati.
Skills include pitching for accuracy at a target, hitting for distance and accuracy from a tee, and running bases for time.
Registration forms are available at the Parks & Recreation office (1 S. 7th St.), the Armory Sports Center (701 E. Ash St.) or online at www.gocolumbiamo.com. Pre-registration is preferred by April 23, but walk-ups are welcome. Copy of birth certificate or baptismal record is required.
