Columbia's 63rd annual 4th of July Fire in the Sky celebration is coming up! Entertainment and activities begin at 6:30 p.m. on July 4 at Flat Branch Park and Peace Park in downtown Columbia. A fireworks display will begin at 9:15 p.m. and will be shot from the top of the Sixth and Cherry parking garage. The fireworks display will be choreographed to music and simulcast on BXR radio 102.3.
The bands The Follow and the Tanner Lee Band will perform on the Peace Park stage and entertainers Black Diamond (Neil Diamond tribute singer) and AKA VooDoo Woman will perform on the Flat Branch Park stage.
Kids activities will take place at Flat Branch Park including an obstacle course, pop-a-shot basketball, games and 4th of July crafts. The spraygrounds will also be open at Flat Branch.
The celebration is free and concessions are available. Please do not bring any fireworks to the event. Free parking is available downtown and on the university campus.
Some streets in the downtown area will be closed in the hours leading up to the event. Visit www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search 4th of July) for information about street closures, parking availability, transit schedule, entertainment schedule and other event details.
Volunteers are still needed for the event. To volunteer, call the City's Office of Volunteer Services Office at 874-7499.
Presenting sponsors of the event are Columbia Insurance Group and KOMU 8 and major sponsors include Cosmopolitan Luncheon Club, KBXR 102.3, KFRU 1400 & Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau.
