Celebrate National Park and Recreation Month with Columbia Parks and Recreation this July! The month has been designated as such by the National Recreation and Park Association, and will be celebrated by local parks and recreation departments throughout the country.
Parks and Recreation will kick off the month with a recreation parklet in front of the Gentry Building at 1 South 7th Street on July 1. Anyone who drops by during the day will be entered into a drawing for great prizes, including ARC passes, City pool coupon books, golf passes, free shelter reservations and passes to Schlitterbahn and Big Surf. Frozen treats will also be served, while supplies last.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month, which was created to celebrate the value that parks and recreation brings to the community. Parks and recreation agencies not only provide places to get active, explore nature and come together as a community. They also have the power to improve health, increase property values and improve the environment.
