Getabout Columbia Hosts Weekend Fall Bike Tours

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

GetAbout Columbia in partnership with Columbia Parks and Recreation is hosting two fall-themed bike rides this weekend.

Capturing the Perfect Fall Photo bike ride will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.  Cyclists of all ages are invited to meet trailside at the MKT Stadium Trailhead, 800 W. Stadium.  Dan Schneiderjohn, amateur photographer and cycling enthusiast, will reveal trailside locations and tips for taking beautiful photos on 8-9 miles of the MKT and MU Rec/Hinkson Creek Trails.

The annual Rocheport Fall Colors Trail Ride will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 25. Ride leaders will meet cyclists at the shelter at Jay Dix Station, 3725 S. Scott Blvd.  The 26-mile, roundtrip route will include both the MKT and Katy Trails. Cyclists will travel along the Boone County portion of the MKT Trail and then west on the cross-state Katy Trail - the nation's longest developed rail trail.  Cyclists will ride along the most scenic section of the trail known for its fall colors, majestic buffs and striking views of the Missouri River.  After a short stop for lunch (on your own) in Rocheport, cyclists will return along the same route.

Trailside ride support will be available for minor maintenance needs. Participants should bring a spare inner-tube and water bottle. All riders are required to wear a helmet. To register for the free rides, call 874-7460 or 874-7700. Drop in participants are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.  For more information contact the GetAbout Columbia Parks and Recreation Department at 874-7460 or visit www.GoColumbiaMo.com. Call the Recreation Hotline (573) 874-7663 ext. 4 for weather related cancelations.
