Columbians Invited to Start New Year Right at Happy New U Event

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health is hosting Columbia's 4th Annual Happy New U fitness event at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January 1. This free community event will feature Columbia's fitness experts conducting mini-workouts and demonstrations to show the variety of exercise options that are available in our city.

Classes or demonstrations offered for adults will include Tai Chi, pilates, yoga, jazzercise, Zumba, body combat, belly dancing, spinning, CrossFit, and more.  Children will be able to participate in many of the fitness activities.  There will also be classes geared toward older adults. Participants should come dressed "ready to move!'

Columbians attending will be able to participate in "Columbia's Biggest Workout." The one hour event will introduce everyone to a variety of different exercise routines.  Last year, more than 150 Columbians participated in this event.

Fitness experts from the ARC, Columbia Jazzercise Center, Key Largo Fitness, CrossFit United, Renaissance Therapy, Flipz Gymnastics and others will be conducting classes and demonstrations; professional dieticians from Hy-Vee will be on hand to discuss healthy eating tips. Kids and adults can participate in "active art" with Creative Days Art Studio. All activities are FREE, but please consider bringing a can or two of healthy food for the Food Bank, which will be collecting donations.

For more information, visit www.gocolumbiamo.com or call the ARC at 874-7700.
