Passes to First Night Columbia are again available this year to those who may not be able to afford to attend the New Year's Eve celebration.
Passes have been distributed to numerous agencies and organizations whose mission is to assist people with low income, with disabilities, or with drug or alcohol addictions. Passes have also been distributed to programs that support at-risk youth programs. These agencies will be distributing the passes to their clients.
One hundred passes are also available at the Armory Sports and Recreation Center for low-income individuals to pick up beginning December 19 until they are distributed (limit 4 per person).
Free admission is also offered to those who volunteer at First Night. Volunteers help with sales, ushering, button checking, and the children's art area. To volunteer, contact the Office of Neighborhood Services at 874-7499.
First Night passes are also given to all performers and to the participants of the 5K run/walk.
The First Night 5K Run/Walk will begin at 4 p.m. on December 31 in front of Cyclextreme and the Teen Venue at the First Christian Church will open at 6 p.m. Doors for other First Night activities open at 6:30, with entertainment held from 7 to 11:30 p.m. The event finale is held from 11:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. in Courthouse Square.
Admission buttons for purchase are available at Columbia Parks and Recreation office (#1 South 7th), the ARC (1701 W Ash), Streetside Records and Gerbes Supermarkets for $8 until 4 p.m. on December 31. Those 7 and under will be admitted free, and those purchasing a button ahead of time will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Admission will be $10 at the door.
First Night Columbia is sponsored by City of Columbia, Columbia Convention and Visitors Tourism Development Program, KPLA 101.5 & KFRU 1400 Radio, KOMU-TV8, Missouri Arts Council (a state agency) and Columbia Parks and Recreation.
First Night Columbia is a non-profit organization. For general information, call Parks and Recreation at 874-7460 or visit: www.firstnightcolumbia.org.
