Columbians Invited to Start New Year Right at "Happy New U" Event

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health is hosting Columbia's 5th Annual Happy New U fitness event at the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC) from 10 a.m. to noon on January 1. This free community event will feature Columbia's fitness experts conducting workouts and demonstrations to show the variety of exercise options that are available in our city.

Classes or demonstrations offered for adults will include Tai Chi, yoga, Zumba, body combat, spinning, CrossFit, and more.  Additionally, the 2nd floor track will be open for running and walking.  Children (age 6 and up) will be able to participate in many of the fitness activities. Participants should come dressed "ready to move!'

Fitness experts from the ARC, Key Largo Fitness, CrossFit United, Flipz Gymnastics, Ultramax, Columbia Track Club and others will be conducting classes and demonstrations; professional dieticians from Hy-Vee will be providing healthy eating tips and meal ideas. Educational sessions will include stress management and information about nutritional supplements.  All activities are FREE. 

Columbians attending will be able to enter to win free registration for the True/False Film Festival 5K Run/Walk March 2nd, 2013.  All attendees will receive a gift for participating.
