College Drinking: Changing the Culture In response to the increasingly complex issue of alcohol abuse among college students, the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism created the Task Force on College Drinking in 1998. The Task Force comprises college presidents, researchers, and students. The goals of the Task Force are threefold:
Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention The Higher Education Center's purpose is to help college and community leaders develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies to reduce student problems related to alcohol and other drug use and interpersonal violence. The Center favors a comprehensive approach to prevention. Central to this approach is a mix of environmental management strategies to address the institutional, community, and public policy factors that contribute to these problems. The Center supports the development of a prevention infrastructure, primarily by facilitating the work of statewide prevention initiatives and campus-community coalitions. The Center provides training, technical assistance, and publications to support these efforts. The Center also promotes innovative program development to improve student education, campus-based media campaigns (including social norms campaigns), screening and treatment referral, and enforcement.
e-CHUG Already in use at 31 universities and colleges across 16 states, is an on-line adaptation of the Check-Up to Go (CHUG); a brief assessment and feedback tool designed to reduce drinking among college students.

Pathways Community Behavioral Healthcare
Pathways adolescent substance abuse treatment program provides individualized treatment which utilizes client and family strengths to develop positive change in adolescents. Pathways offers comprehensive services including: drug testing, family therapy, family groups, individual therapy, group education and group process, and community support. Pathways also provides community education for groups wanting to learn more about adolescent substance abuse.

Prevention Resource Center (PRC), a Regional Support Center, is a program of the Family Counseling Center of Missouri, Inc., located at 117 N. Garth, Columbia, Missouri 65203. Center for Disease Control: Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance — United States, 2003
Description of System: The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors six categories of priority health-risk behaviors among youth and young adults — behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence; tobacco use; alcohol and other drug use; sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection; unhealthy dietary behaviors;
and physical inactivity — plus overweight. YRBSS includes a national school-based survey conducted by CDC as well as state and local school-based surveys conducted by education and health agencies. This report summarizes results from the national survey, 32 state surveys, and 18 local surveys conducted among students in grades 9–12 during February–December 2003.
