Section 2-176 Directors of departments.
Prior to the adoption of Ord. 21091 on 09/19/2011, Section 2-176 read as follows.
At the head of each department there shall be a director who shall be an officer
of the city and
shall have supervision and control of the department, subject to the city manager. The director of
the police department shall be the chief of police, and the director of the fire department shall be
the fire chief. Except as may be otherwise provided by the charter, all directors of departments
shall be appointed by the city manager.
Except as otherwise provided by the Charter, the city
manager shall establish the qualifications and duties of department heads.
Two (2) departments
may be headed by the same individual; the city manager may head a department, or more than
one with consent of the council; and directors of departments may serve as chiefs of divisions.
