Section 101-063 Res. 16-00; Construction of a 12-Inch Water Main Running Along Smiley Lane Located in and Serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2; Authorizing Payment of Differential Costs

A RESOLUTION
declaring the necessity for the construction of a 12inch water main running along Smiley
Lane
located in and serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2; stating the nature of the improvement;
estimating the extra cost for constructing a 12-inch rather than an 8-inch water main; providing
that the improvement shall be made by Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc.; providing that
payment for the extra cost of constructing a larger water main shall be from water utility funds;
and setting a public hearing.
WHEREAS, Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc. desires to install
an 8-inch water main to
serve property abutting the proposed water main extension; and
WHEREAS, the City for reasons of health, safety, public welfare,
and future adequate service
to areas other than Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2, requires that a 12inch water main be installed; and
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for such installation have
been prepared by the Director
of the Water and Light Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Council deems the construction of about
700 feet of 12inch water main
pipes and accessory valves and fittings running along Smiley Lane located in and serving
Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2 necessary to assure adequate future water supply for the health, safety
and welfare of the citizens of the City.
SECTION 2. The nature and scope of the improvement shall
consist of furnishing all labor,
materials, transportation, insurance and all other items necessary for the complete construction of
the water main described in Section 1.
SECTION 3. The estimated differential cost (the cost of
constructing a 12-inch water main
which exceeds the cost of constructing an 8-inch water main) of this improvement is $ 9.05 per
linear foot, and the estimated differential cost of solid rock excavation, if necessary above that
required to install an 8-inch water main, is $2.00 per linear foot.
SECTION 4. This improvement shall be made by Stephen Herigon
Construction, Inc.
SECTION 5. Payment of differential costs, not to exceed
the estimated amounts stated in
Section 3, shall be made to Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc. from the Capital/Transmission
and Distribution Mains Account upon satisfactory completion of the work and acceptance of the
Engineer's Report by the City Council.
SECTION 6. This resolution shall be published in a daily
newspaper of general circulation in
the City of Columbia for seven (7) consecutive insertions, and a public hearing in respect to this
improvement will be held in the Council Chamber of the Daniel Boone Building, 701 E.
Broadway, Columbia, Missouri, at 7:00 p.m., on February 21, 2000.
