determining that it is in the public interest to construct a 12inch water main running along Smiley Lane located in and serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2; approving and adopting plans and specifications; determining that the work shall be done by Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc.; appropriating funds; providing for payment of the extra cost for constructing a 12-inch rather than an 8-inch water main; and fixing the time when this ordinance shall become effective.

    WHEREAS, the City Council adopted a resolution on February 7, 2000, declaring the necessity of constructing a 12-inch water main running along Smiley Lane located in and serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2 and setting a public hearing on this project; and

    WHEREAS, the resolution was published in a daily newspaper of general circulation in the city; and

    WHEREAS, the City Council has held a public hearing on construction of the water main.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.  The Council finds that the construction of a 12inch water main running along Smiley Lane located in and serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2 is necessary for the welfare and improvement of the City and that it is in the public interest that such improvement be made.

    SECTION 2.  The plans and specifications for this improvement, as prepared by the Director of the Water and Light Department and filed in the office of the City Clerk, are hereby approved and made a part of this ordinance by reference.

    SECTION 3.  The construction of the improvement shall be done by Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc.

    SECTION 4.  The sum of $ 6,335.00 is hereby appropriated from the Fund Balance Account No. 550-0000-351.01-00 to the Capital/Transmission and Distribution Mains Account No. 550-7220-881.68-60, Project #WT0010, Work Request #WF0054136/5.

    SECTION 5.  The Director of Finance is authorized to pay Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc. $6,335.00 for installing 700 feet of a 12-inch water main serving Vanderveen Plaza, Plat 2.  This amount is the differential cost of installing a 12-inch water main above the cost of installing an 8-inch water main.

    SECTION 6.  This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
