Council Bill No.          R 14-01          

declaring the necessity for the construction of a 12-inch water main serving Vanderveen Crossing, Plat 6; stating the nature of the improvement; estimating the extra cost for constructing a 12-inch water main rather than 6-inch and 8-inch water mains; providing that the improvement shall be made by Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc.; and setting a public hearing.

    WHEREAS, Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc. desires to install 6-inch and  8-inch water mains to serve Vanderveen Crossing, Plat 6; and

    WHEREAS, the City for reasons of health, safety, public welfare, and future adequate service to areas other than Vanderveen Crossing, Plat 6, requires that a 12inch water main be installed; and

    WHEREAS, plans and specifications for such installation have been prepared by the Director of the Water and Light Department.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.  The Council deems the construction of about 3,235 feet of 12-inch water main pipes and accessory valves and fittings running along Smiley Lane  serving Vanderveen Crossing, Plat 6, necessary to assure adequate future water supply for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City.

    SECTION 2.  The nature and scope of the improvement shall consist of furnishing all labor, materials, transportation, insurance and all other items necessary for the complete construction of the water main described in Section 1.

    SECTION 3.  The estimated differential cost for a 12-inch water main (the cost of constructing a 12-inch water main which exceeds the cost for constructing  an 8-inch water main) for this improvement is $ 6.42 per linear foot; the estimated differential cost for a 12-inch water main (the cost of constructing a 12-inch water main which exceeds the cost for constructing a 6-inch water main) for this improvement is $10.18 per linear foot; and the estimated differential cost of solid rock excavation, if necessary, above that required to install  6-inch and 8inch water mains, is $ 2.00 per linear foot.

    SECTION 4.  This improvement shall be made by Stephen Herigon Construction, Inc.

    SECTION 5.  This resolution shall be published in a daily newspaper of general circulation in the City of Columbia for seven (7) consecutive insertions, and a public hearing in respect to this improvement will be held in the Council Chamber of the Daniel Boone Building, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, Missouri, at 7:00 p.m., on February 19, 2001.
