A RESOLUTION

establishing a Steering Committee to oversee the planning process for the Broadway Bicycle/Pedestrian Corridor Plan.

    WHEREAS, Broadway is a major east-west arterial of significant importance to the transportation needs of the community; and

    WHEREAS, the proposed PedNet Bicycle/Pedestrian Network Plan has identified Broadway as a vital segment or backbone component of the network; and

    WHEREAS, a  planning study should be completed to identify improvements which could make Broadway a more useful and safer route for bicycles and pedestrians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    Section 1.  A Steering Committee, consisting of a member of the City Council and one member of each of the following commissions:  Planning and Zoning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission, and Disabilities Commission, is hereby established to oversee the planning process, develop  project goals, identify corridor study segments, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations to the Council.  All Steering Committee members shall be appointed by the Mayor.

    Section 2.  An opportunity shall be provided for residents, property owners, businesses, churches, schools, neighborhood associations, and other stakeholders within each segment of the Broadway corridor to participate in the planning process.

    Section 3.  The Steering Committee shall cease to exist when it submits a proposed Broadway Bicycle/Pedestrian Corridor Plan to the City Council for the Council’s consideration.
 
    Section 4.  The City Manager shall provide appropriate staff support for the Steering Committee.
