AN ORDINANCE

amending Chapter 5 of the City Code as it relates to animals; and fixing the time when this ordinance shall become effective.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.  Chapter 5 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Columbia, Missouri, is hereby amended as follows:

Sec. 5-1. Definitions.

    The following words and terms, as used in this chapter, shall be deemed to have the following meanings:

    Livestock shall include cattle, horses, mules, goats, sheep, hogs, rabbits and chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, lamas, emu, ostriches, camels or any other domestic fowl or domestic beast.

Sec. 5-81. Keeping within city restricted.
    
     (a)     No person shall keep a cow, bull, mare, jack, horse, goat, sheep, hog, swine, pig, chicken, duck, turkey or other domestic fowl livestock in an outdoor enclosure, outbuilding or pasture, the exterior boundary of which is within one hundred (100) feet of the dwelling house of another, or a church, school or place of business, without the consent in writing of the occupant of such dwelling house, trustees of such church or school, or owner of such place of business.

     (b)     No person shall keep more than one cow, bull, jack, horse, goat, sheep, hog, swine, pig, chicken, turkey or other domestic fowl or any combination of such animals or fowl livestock in an outdoor enclosure, outbuilding or pasture, unless such enclosure, outbuilding or pasture shall have an area of one-half acre for each of such animals and fowl; provided, that this area requirement shall not apply to the keeping of suckling offspring of a cow or mare.
