AN ORDINANCE

extending the term of the cable television franchise held by Charter Communications
Entertainment I, L.L.C.; and fixing the time when this ordinance shall become
effective.

    WHEREAS, in 2001, Charter Communications Entertainment I, L.L.C. (Charter) initiated negotiations for the renewal of its cable television franchise which expires on April 3, 2004; and

    WHEREAS, MCC Missouri, L.L.C. (Mediacom) has also initiated negotiations for the renewal of its cable television franchise which expires on January 19, 2006; and

    WHEREAS, the City is currently reviewing a number of issues related to the renewal of the cable television franchises of Charter and Mediacom; and

    WHEREAS, the City has not yet determined the terms on which it is willing to renew the franchises of Charter and Mediacom; and

    WHEREAS, Charter is willing to have its cable television franchise extended to January 19, 2006 while the franchise renewal process continues.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1. The term of the cable television franchise held by Charter Communications Entertainment I, L.L.C. is extended to January 19, 2006.

    SECTION 2.  The City and Charter shall continue the franchise renewal process initiated by Charter.

    SECTION 3.  This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
