A RESOLUTION

authorizing the City Manager to provide emergency assistance to governmental entities needing assistance as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

    WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina is an unprecedented natural disaster that has devastated the Gulf Coast, displaced hundreds of thousands of people, disrupted life sustaining services and threatens the health and economy of the region and nation; and

    WHEREAS, the City of Columbia has staff and resources that may be of use in recovering from this disaster.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City Manager is authorized to provide emergency assistance to any governmental entity requesting assistance as a result of Hurricane Katrina.  Such assistance shall be provided within the constraints of the city budget and the needs of the residents of the City of Columbia.
