A RESOLUTION

authorizing the City Manager to provide assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

    WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina is an unprecedented natural disaster that has devastated the Gulf Coast, displaced hundreds of thousands of people, disrupted life sustaining services and threatens the health and economy of the region and nation; and

    WHEREAS, a number of Hurricane Katrina victims have come to Columbia; and

    WHEREAS, the City of Columbia wishes to provide special assistance to these hurricane victims.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City Manager is authorized to provide assistance to victims of Hurricane Katrina who are staying in Columbia by providing them free passes for city buses and city recreational facilities.
    SECTION 2.    The City Manager is authorized to allow fund-raising events on city property for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

    SECTION 3.    The City Manager is authorized to provide such other assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina as he deems expedient.
