AN ORDINANCE

extending the term of the cable television franchise held by Falcon Telecable, a California limited partnership (Charter Communications); and fixing the time when this ordinance shall become effective.

    WHEREAS, the cable television franchise of Falcon Telecable, a California limited partnership (Charter Communications) expires on January 19, 2006; and
    WHEREAS, the City and Charter Communications are engaged in the franchise renewal process but will not complete that process before Charter Communications’ cable television franchise expires; and

    WHEREAS, City and Charter Communications agree that the franchise shall be extended to permit the franchise renewal process to be completed in a manner consistent with Federal law.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The term of the cable television franchise held by Charter Communications is extended to January 17, 2007 or until a new franchise agreement is entered into between the City and Charter Communications, whichever occurs first.

    SECTION 2.    This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
