A RESOLUTION

memorializing a portion of Nifong Boulevard as the “Officer Molly Bowden Memorial Boulevard.”

    WHEREAS, on January 10, 2005, Police Officer Molly Bowden was shot and critically wounded while conducting a vehicle stop on Nifong Boulevard; and

    WHEREAS, Police Officer Molly Bowden died as a result of these injuries on February 10, 2005; and

    WHEREAS, Molly Bowden was the first officer killed in the line of duty in the history of the City of Columbia Police Department; and

    WHEREAS, the City of Columbia desires to memorialize a portion of Nifong Boulevard, from Forum Boulevard to Bethel Road, as the “Officer Molly Bowden Memorial Boulevard.”

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.  In honor of the death of Police Officer Molly Bowden, the portion of Nifong Boulevard, from Forum Boulevard to Bethel Road, shall be memorialized as the “Officer Molly Bowden Memorial Boulevard” effective on February 10, 2006.

    SECTION 2.  A marker in Officer Molly Bowden’s honor shall be allowed to be placed within the right-of-way of Nifong Boulevard at the location of the assault. Further, the white cross erected by citizens of the City of Columbia within the right-of-way of Nifong Boulevard may be allowed to remain at its current location.
