Council Bill No. R 44-06

     A RESOLUTION

approving a plan for the installation of two bronze sculptures in Flat Branch Park.

    WHEREAS, local artist Larry Young has previously created a six foot bronze sculpture titled “Marathon Man” an abstract depiction of a male figure in running motion; and

    WHEREAS, Mr. Young plans to design a companion piece titled “Marathon Woman”; and

    WHEREAS, the total value of these pieces will be approximately $60,000; and

    WHEREAS, Mr. Young is willing to cast these pieces and assist with installation in Flat Branch Park for the sum of $30,000; and

    WHEREAS, First National Bank has proposed making a $30,000 gift to the City so that the City may commission “Marathon Man” and “Marathon Woman” and install both pieces in Flat Branch Park.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City approves the plan to accept a gift of $30,000 from First National Bank for the purpose of commissioning “Marathon Man” and “Marathon Woman” and installing both pieces in Flat Branch Park.
