     A RESOLUTION

expressing support for capital improvements on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus to enhance the life sciences research mission and the addition of a Health Sciences Research Center.

    WHEREAS, the University of Missouri-Columbia is an integral portion of the community providing excellent education, research and health care opportunities for Columbia citizens; and

    WHEREAS, the addition of a Health Sciences Research Center, a Plant Sciences Research Center and a Life Sciences Incubator will further enhance and advance the research mission of the University of Missouri-Columbia to provide advancement and economic opportunity for the citizens of the State of Missouri; and

    WHEREAS, the City of Columbia takes great pride in the University of Missouri and recognizes the University’ s important role in advancing the quality of life, advancing health care for all Missourian's and advancing educational and economic opportunities for our future.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City Council hereby expresses its support for capital improvements on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus to enhance life sciences research.

    SECTION 2.    The City Council specifically supports the addition of a new Health Sciences Research Center, a new Plant Sciences Research Center and a new Life Sciences Incubator on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.

    SECTION 3.    The City Council enthusiastically recommends to the members of the Missouri General Assembly its support of Life Sciences Research infrastructure on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.

    SECTION 4.    The City Council hereby endorses the Health Sciences Research Center for immediate funding and construction to advance the health care needs of all Missourians.

    SECTION 5.  The City Manager is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to appropriate elected officials.
