Section 107-153; Ord. 18940; Amending Chapter 6 of the City Code as it relates to canopies in downtown Columbia

     AN ORDINANCE

amending Chapter 6 of the City Code as it relates to canopies in downtown Columbia; and fixing the time when this ordinance shall become effective.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Columbia, Missouri, is hereby amended as follows:

Sec. 6-17. Amendments.

The code adopted by this article is hereby amended by substituting the following sections in lieu of those sections with corresponding numbers in the code, or, where there is no corresponding section in the code, the following sections shall be enacted as additions to the code:

3202.5    A free standing concrete canopy may be constructed and maintained on issuance of a permit by the city council in the following described area:

. . .

    A.    Any canopy , awning, or other similar structure maintained in the above described area shall:

     1.    Be free standing and not supported by any adjacent building or structure;

     2.    Have a minimum horizontal clearance of two (2) feet from the curb line; and

3.    Conform to the design, construction, material and exterior as shown on specifications on file in the public works department.

     B.    No canopy , awning or other similar structure may be constructed, maintained, altered, or substantially modified or removed in the above described area without a permit from the city council.  The building official may issue a permit to remove any canopy in the above described area.

    SECTION 2.    This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
