Council Bill No. R 97-06

     A RESOLUTION

naming the courtroom in the Howard Municipal Building in honor of George F. Nickolaus.

    WHEREAS, George Nickolaus served the City of Columbia as city attorney from 1959 to 1960 and city counselor from 1960 to 1966; and

    WHEREAS, George Nickolaus served the City of Columbia as acting city manager in 1961; and

    WHEREAS, George Nickolaus served the City of Columbia as mayor from 1967 to 1969; and

    WHEREAS, George Nickolaus served as associate municipal judge from 1992 until his death on March 5, 2003; and

    WHEREAS, when George Nickolaus served as city counselor and mayor, the room in the Howard Municipal Building that now serves as the municipal courtroom also served as the city council chambers.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The courtroom in the Howard Municipal Building is hereby named the George F. Nickolaus Courtroom in honor of an outstanding Columbian who devoted years of distinguished service to his community.

    ADOPTED this 17th day of April, 2006.
