Section 107-328; Res. 112-06; Authorizing the municipal judge to establish a memorial in the Howard Municipal Building to honor municipal court employees who were employed by the City at the time of their deaths


Council Bill No. R 112-06

     A RESOLUTION

authorizing the municipal judge to establish a memorial in the Howard Municipal Building to honor municipal court employees who were employed by the City at the time of their deaths.

    WHEREAS, the municipal court desires to establish a memorial to recognize municipal court employees who died while employed by the municipal court; and

    WHEREAS, the municipal court has proposed that the memorial honor individuals who were employees of the court at the time of their deaths; and

    WHEREAS, the initial employees to be honored are:  

George Nickolaus who served as associate municipal judge from 1992 until his death on March 5, 2003;

Timothy Heinsz who served as associate municipal judge from 2003 until his death on July 2, 2004; and

Robert Potts who served as bailiff and process server from 2001 until his death on November 5, 2005.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The municipal judge is hereby authorized to establish a memorial on the second floor of the Howard Municipal Building in the area assigned to the court or the court clerk or in the common area to honor municipal court employees who were employed by the City at the time of their deaths.  For purposes of this resolution, “municipal court employees” includes any member of the police department assigned to the court to serve as court bailiff.
