Section 107-523; Res 181-06; Declaring the necessity for the construction and extension of an 8-inch water main serving Dakota Ridge, Plat 2; setting a public hearing

Council Bill No. R 181-06

declaring the necessity for the construction and extension of an 8inch water main serving Dakota Ridge, Plat 2; stating the nature of the improvement; estimating the extra cost for constructing an 8-inch rather than a 6-inch water main; providing that the improvement shall be made by William Hugh Tincher; providing that payment for the extra cost of constructing a larger water main shall be from water utility funds; and setting a public hearing.

WHEREAS, William Hugh Tincher desires to install a 6inch water main to serve property abutting the proposed water main extension; and

WHEREAS, the City for reasons of health, safety, public welfare, and future adequate service to areas other than Dakota Ridge, Plat 2, requires that an 8inch water main be installed; and

WHEREAS, plans and specifications for such installation have been prepared by the Director of the Water and Light Department.

SECTION 1.    The Council deems the construction of about 1,865 feet of 8inch water main pipes and accessory valves and fittings serving Dakota Ridge, Plat 2 necessary to assure adequate future water supply for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City.

SECTION 2.    The nature and scope of the improvement shall consist of furnishing all labor, materials, transportation, insurance and all other items necessary for the complete construction of the water main described in Section 1.

SECTION 3.    The estimated differential cost (the cost of constructing an 8-inch water main which exceeds the cost of constructing a 6-inch water main) of this improvement is $6.70 per linear foot.

SECTION 4.    This improvement shall be made by William Hugh Tincher.

SECTION 5.    Payment of differential costs, not to exceed the estimated amounts stated in Section 3, shall be made to William Hugh Tincher from the Capital/Transmission and Distribution Mains Account upon satisfactory completion of the work and acceptance of the Engineer's Report by the City Council.

SECTION 6.    This resolution shall be published in a daily newspaper of general circulation in the City of Columbia for seven (7) consecutive insertions, and a public hearing in respect to this improvement will be held in the Council Chamber of the Daniel Boone Building, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, Missouri, at 7:00 p.m., on September 5, 2006.

ADOPTED this 21st day of August, 2006.
