Section 110-264; Res. 124-09; Celebrating the success of the Columbia College menís and womenís Cougar athletic teams


Council Bill No.  R 124-09

    A RESOLUTION

celebrating the success of the Columbia College men’s and women’s Cougar athletic teams.

    WHEREAS, Columbia College has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 150 years; and

    WHEREAS, Columbia, Missouri, is the home of the Cougars; and

    WHEREAS, the Columbia College Cougar teams, coaches and staff have contributed to community well-being by adopting a winning attitude and work ethic; demonstrating grace under pressure; and doing well academically; and

    WHEREAS, achievements during the last academic year include winning the men’ s basketball program’ s eighth American Midwest Conference postseason tournament and advancing to the NAIA Championship; getting an at-large bid to play in the women’ s NAIA basketball tournament; a trip to play in the national women’ s volleyball championship games; and academic and conference All-American honors, including Champions of Character awards, in both men’ s and women’ s sports; and

    WHEREAS, the Cougars’  success has been a unifying event for alumni and supporters, including students in Columbia as well as those who attend the other 34 extended campuses around the country.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City Council extends its heartfelt congratulations to Columbia College and to the Cougar athletic teams for their accomplishments this past season and best wishes for continued success.
