Section 110-265; Res. 125-09; Celebrating the success of the University of Missouri Tiger athletes


Council Bill No.   R 125-09

     A RESOLUTION

celebrating the success of the University of Missouri Tiger athletes.

    WHEREAS, the University of Missouri has a long and distinguished history in academics, research, athletic accomplishments and public service; and

    WHEREAS, Columbia, Missouri, is the capital of Mizzou Tiger Nation; and

    WHEREAS, Tiger athletic team achievements during the 2008 –  2009 academic year include a football victory in the Valero Alamo Bowl; an advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA men’ s basketball tournament; college world series competition for the women’ s softball team; a Big Twelve championship for the women’ s soccer team; and record winning seasons for several teams; and

    WHEREAS, individual achievements include honors for Tiger coaches; All-American athletic, All-American academic, Big Twelve and community honors for student-athletes; an NCAA heavyweight wrestling championship; an Olympic silver medal-winner; opportunities to qualify for advanced national competitions, including the U.S. Open; and opportunities to play professionally in several sports; and
 
    WHEREAS, the success of the University and the Tigers continues to be a unifying event for alumni and supporters.

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

    SECTION 1.    The City Council extends its heartfelt congratulations to the University and to the Mizzou Tigers for their accomplishments this past season and best wishes for continued success.
