What happens if a dog or cat bites a person?

• in the City, the animal shall be impounded by Animal Control or with a veterinarian for 10 days for observation
• in Boone County, if the animal has proof of vaccination, the animal shall be impounded on the owner's property or with a licensed veterinarian of the owner's choice for a period of 10 days
• In Boone County, unvaccinated animals must be impounded for 10 days with a licensed veterinarian
• cost of impoundment shall be paid by the owner

What should I do if my pet bites me or someone else?

• notify the Animal Control Office
• animal bites are serious and should not be taken lightly
• victims of animal bites, however minor, should always consult a physician
• file a complaint
