The City of Columbia is committed to providing public health services that prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, promote healthy behaviors, prevent injuries and illness, assure the quality and accessibility of health services, monitor the health of the population, provide social services and promote and protect civil rights.

Archived Board of Health Agenda & Minutes

The Board of Health acts as an advisory board to the City Manager, health officer, and the Council on matters pertaining to public health and animal control. The City Council makes seven appointments to this eleven-member board. Membership must include a physician, veterinarian, nurse, dentist and health care worker. The remaining members must have an interest in public health. Terms are three years, with openings occurring in August for the City appointments.
