ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
(This list is not comprehensive, but indicates duties and responsibilities which may be redefined pursuant to operational needs):
Serves as Deputy Emergency Management Director. Establishes and ensures that proper procedures are followed in routine and emergency operations. Ability to assume the duties of the Administrator in the latter's absence. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints as assigned. Participates in interviews; makes recommendations on permanent and temporary employee selections. Directly supervises all probationary employees and assists in evaluating their work performance. Trains, briefs, and orients new employees. Develops and conducts comprehensive training programs for all staff. Completes proficiency guides for all communications operators and supervisors; maintains and updates policy and procedures, MULES administration and alarm billing. Supervises long term projects and prepares reports. Must be able to supervise and work a console position in the operations room as needed. Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and five years full time experience in public safety
communications, considerable experience in the supervision and evaluation of
employees; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would
provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Skill in supervising
and organizing the work of subordinates. Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in project management. Skill in operating telephone, radio and alarm equipment.
Skill in operating a personal computer and related software. Ability to deal
tactfully and courteously with the public and Government officials. Ability
to use good judgment in the analysis of problems. Ability to prepare and maintain
accurate reports and records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with co-workers. Excellent work history and attendance record.
