Mission of the Council
Improve the physical fitness and health and enhance the quality of life of all citizens of Columbia and Boone County.

Mayor's Fitness Awards (Click here to submit a nomination!)
The Mayor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health is holding its annual Fitness Award ceremony at 6 p.m. on November 4, 2014. The ceremony will be held at Columbia City Hall. Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid will recognize individuals and organizations who have made a commitment to their personal health or who have inspired others around them. Additionally, the Columbia/Boone County Health and Human Services Department will be presenting the Healthy Community Person of the Year and the Healthy Community Partners Awards.
Glow Zumba Party!
Friday, Nov 21, 7 pm at the ARC, 1701 W Ash
Wear your brightest clothes and glow attire/jewelry and dance the night away! Admission to the event is free but please bring canned goods for the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. Attendance prizes will be awarded!
Join the COMO Kids Challenge and complete a half marathon! Track all three steps of the Challenge and join us for a night of Fitness Fun at the ARC on November 21. Participants will run their final mile, have fun at a Glow Zumba Party (see above) and receive their prizes. Participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher's medal, and a book to celebrate their accomplishments (while supplies last). The run will start right at 7 pm on November 21 at the ARC. The program is FREE to kids in grades K-5th. Please RSVP to the final event by Nov 1 at email@example.com. Participants are asked to bring canned goods to be donated to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri .

Bike Walk and Wheel Week Breakfast Station
We had a great time serving breakfast at Flat Branch Park with Walt's Bicycle Shop during Bike, Walk, Wheel Week! Thank you to our sponsors including: Sunflower Waffle Company, Focus on Health Chiropractic, Sonic, Anytime Fitness, and Kaldi's Coffee!
Zumba Glow Party!
More than 150 people joined the Mayor's Council and MU students from the Program Development inLeisure Studies course for a night of glow in the dark Zumba! The event took place April 13, 2013 at Stephens Lake Amphitheater and was a huge success. Thank you to the students for planning the event, the MU football team and the ARC for attendance prizes, and the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity for use of their sound system. The ladies of Joe Machens Toyota service department won the prize for the "most glowed group." We look forward to putting on another Zumba Glow Party in the future!
True Life Run
The Mayor's Council sponsored an agility station at the True Life Run during the True/False Film Festival on March 2, 2013. Almost 200 runners came through the course, which featured an agility ladder, cone drills, and jump roping. Cold and snowy, but lots of fun! Looking forward to next year.
5th Annual Happy New U a Success!
More than 150 participants braved the cold weather and leftover snow and ice to start 2013 off right with exercise and tips for healthy living! The event, held at the ARC on New Year's Day, featured fitness classes ranging from Spinning to yoga to Zumba. A big thanks to all of our fitness partners and vendors--without them, we couldn't host community events like this!
