As part of the Katy Trail, Columbia's MKT Trail also
becomes a part of the new American Discovery Trail.
It joins other trails in a network to make the
nation's first coast-to-coast non-motorized trail.

The American Discovery Trail (ADT) is a new breed
of national trail - part city, part small town,
part forest, part mountains, part desert - all
in one trail. It's 6,300+ miles of adventure, discovery
and fun, stretching from Delaware to California.
It reaches across American, linking community to
community. The ADT was designated a National Millennium
Trail by the White House Millennium Trail Council.
The ADT provides trail users the opportunity to
journey into the heart of all that is uniquely
American - its culture, heritage, landscape and
spirit.

Following remarks from Mike Hood, Director of Parks
and Recreation as well as John Ott, Chair of the
Flat Branch Park Committe and Raymond Beck, Columbia
City Manager, the groundbreaking took place.
