The activities and offices previously located at the Stephens Lake Activity Center, have moved to the newly renovated buildings at the Waters-Moss Memorial Wildlife Area. Waters-Moss is the former headquarters of the Columbia office of the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). The City of Columbia took over the management of the Waters-Moss Memorial Wildlife Area as part of a land swap agreement with MDC in 2012. MDC has relocated their regional office to the Gans Creek Recreation Area.
The former main MDC office has been converted to the Hillcrest Community Center, with additional square footage added to the building. The move includes four full-time staff, as well as preschool programs, Life Enrichment classes, 50+ programs and tours, and programming held in cooperation with Osher @ Mizzou.
The other building in close proximity to the Hillcrest Community Center has been renamed the "Moss Building." The Moss Building also hosts various recreation programs and classes.
