Informal trails allow visitors to wander over most of this 230+-acre natural area. Native prairie grasses, sheer limestone cliffs, and a diversity of vegetation, wildlife and landforms provide great visual interest. The Grindstone and Hinkson Creeks, plus the Gordon Tract, which is a National Register Archaeologic Site, are features of this natural area. The parks are located in south-east Columbia and can be accessed from the east off of Old Hwy. 63 South or from the west off of Rock Quarry Road. The City's portion of the Hinkson Creek Trail begins in Grindstone Nature Area, connects to Capen Park and to the Hinkson Creek Recreation Area on the University of Missouri Campus.
