The Columbia Police Department was asked to provide a recent six months' block of data regarding TASER usages to the Citizens Police Review Board. At the time of the request, the most recent six months' data spanned November 15, 2009 through May 15, 2010.
The data provided includes the following:
The data show that in six month's time, officers actually deployed their TASER devices (probe deployment or drive stun) just twelve times, nine of which were effective.
Officers used the light display or arc-display to gain suspect compliance, without having to deploy the TASER device, fifteen times, with twelve of those times begin effective. In the other three instances, suspects became compliant but officers could not ascertain if that was solely due to the presence of the TASER device.
