Community Youth Services Unit

The Community Youth Services Unit is part of the West District patrol division, supervised by Captain Steve Monticelli. I supervise the unit. Eight school resource officers and two juvenile detectives are assigned.

The Community Youth Services Unit is responsible for providing a safe learning environment, and is a resource at each middle, junior, and senior high schools within the Columbia Public School District. We also have two juvenile detectives who investigate crimes in cases requiring extensive follow-up and the suspect is under the age of 17.

The Community Youth Services Unit is also committed to teaching the D.A.R.E. Program and hosts several activities for area youth such as Mud Stock, D.A.R.E. Camp, The Cadet Program, and Youth Academy. If you are a teenager or a parent of one and would like more information please click on my photo to send me an e-mail or you can call (573) 874-7425.

This year’s Youth Academy is a five day overview of the criminal justice system, and any teenager (between the ages of 13-17) is welcome to participate. It is free to the public and is scheduled for Wednesday, July 5 though July 11, 2006.
