The Professional Standards Division was developed in 2009. The Division now includes Training and Recruitment, Research and Development, and Internal Affairs. This division is a change from the department's prior Professional Standards Unit. The Professional Standards Unit (PSU) became operational in February 2008 as a result of the department's desire to bring internal investigations and employee recognition to current national standards. The PSU was designed to provide an investigative function for allegations of officer misconduct.
The division is supervised by Lieutenant Krista Shouse-Jones. The Training and Recruitment Unit is supervised by Sergeant John Worden, while Internal Affairs duties are overseen by Sergeants Lloyd Simons and Jason Jones. Officer Rick Horrell provides the department's Research and Development function.
