Captain’s Notes March 4, 2010 March 5th is a big day for the Columbia Police Department. We celebrate the retirement of three major contributors to the City of Columbia: Lieutenant John White, Detective Steve Brown, and Administrative Support Assistant Carolyn Foster. All three have dedicated many years of their lives to the service of our community and have sacrificed much to work in field of public safety. We thank them for their service. The 5th is also a big day for the department, as we celebrate the promotion of two deserving employees. Sergeant Tim Moriarity is being promoted to the position of lieutenant. He will be in charge of Sector C in the southwest portion of our city. Sergeant. Moriarity was hired by the Columbia Police Department in 1989. After working as a patrol officer, bicycle officer, Crime Prevention and DARE officer, he was promoted to sergeant in 1998. Tim worked as a sergeant in the Patrol Division as well as the Traffic Unit. He has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Public Administration. Tim also completed the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command School. Sergeant Moriarity has an extensive background in traffic management. He is also an avid bicyclist and has actively participated with PedNet. We welcome his experience and enthusiasm to the South Patrol Bureau. We also celebrate the promotion of Officer Mike Hestir to the position of sergeant. Officer Hestir is currently assigned to the department’s Professional Standards Division and works in the Training and Recruiting Unit. He was hired in 1999 after serving as a sergeant and SWAT member for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. After his hire date in 1999, Mike worked as a patrol officer until 2004, when he joined the department’s Community Action Team. He has been on CPD’s SWAT Team since 2002. Mike was assigned to Training and Recruiting in February of 2009. Mike will be assigned to the South Patrol Bureau working from 6 PM to 6 AM. He will be assigned to work primarily in Sector D in southeast Columbia, Beat 70. We believe his training and experience will be a great influence on our officers working these late night shifts. In the field of law enforcement, we are asked to quickly adapt to change and new developments. The promotion of these two very qualified individuals should make the transition in the South Patrol Bureau smooth and seamless. |
