Columbia Police Department Records Unit

One of the most under-appreciated yet vital units in the police department is the Records Unit. There is not enough that can be said about the hard work and dedication that marks the tireless work of these employees. The Columbia Police Department adds new officers almost every year, and each of these new officers creates a tremendous workload that these records clerks must keep up with. They keep the information flowing to the necessary departments that need it. They are the actual backbone of the law enforcement process. They are supervised by Janis Brown.

Officers may make arrests and place people into custody, but we are a nation of laws. Laws are words written on paper that we hold as guidelines for a just society. The CPD records unit takes all the work of each officer, and starts the process that sends someone through our criminal justice system. Without them, this could not happen. They also keep the valuable records and statistics that give us a sense of the state of our city with respect to crime, accidents, and related areas. Together, they work as a team, and the officers of CPD salute them and thank them for their hard work!

Records hours New Hours: The Records Unit is open for business at 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, in order to provide better customer service. To access the Records Unit of the police department, come to the 7th Street side of the building, and enter the door closest to Walnut Street.

Administrative Support Section

Other vital areas of support for the law enforcement function at CPD are performed. Brenda Douglas works a variety of assignments in the personnel development unit and administrative support section. Sandra Smith also has a number of vital duties, to include equipping the police officers with everything they need to perform their jobs. Evidence Custodian Michelle Heater, ASA III Donna Allen and Maria Logan handle the evidence unit, and keep the mountain of evidence secure and accounted for.

Without the support of the civilian personnel, this department could not function. We wish to thank every civilian employee for their hard work.
