Sergeant Beckman has been a member of the Columbia Police Department since 1995 and was selected as one of the founding members of the Forensic Evidence Team in 2003. In January, 2013, Sergeant Beckman was assigned to the Property and Evidence Unit to manage a number of upgrades for the Unit. Sergeant Beckman is tasked with remodeling the Unit to increase its productivity and efficiency. He is also tasked with multiple technology upgrades for the Unit.
Michelle Heater, Unit Supervisor
The Property and Evidence Unit is supervised by Michelle Heater, a civilian employee of the police department. Michelle has been with the department since 1990. She supervises two other civilian employees in the Unit. The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the intake, storage, and transportation to the lab, all evidence submitted by the officers of the Columbia Police Department. The Unit is also responsible for the intake and storage of all found property, and any item the department has taken custody of and needs to store until it is disposed of.
The Property and Evidence Unit is accessible to the public Tuesday-Thursday from 9:00 am-4:00 pm for the purpose of picking up property being held as evidence, abandoned or found property, and items held for safekeeping. Please call to make an appointment.
