Fines & Payments FAQ's

Red light cameras are actively enforcing traffic laws at selected road intersections. The City of Columbia urges you to always drive safely…always stop for red lights…always take care of yourself and others.

The City of Columbia has red light cameras at four locations:

Signs are posted at intersections with a camera, warning drivers that photo enforcement is in use.

Enforcement: Traffic citations will be mailed to a vehicle’s registered owner. Violators are subject to penalties imposed by the Municipal Court.

Red light running really IS that big a problem.

Nationwide, it’s estimated that red light running causes more than 9,000 crashes each year.  Drivers who don’t respect and stop for red lights put themselves and others at risk of property damage, injury…even loss of life.

In surveys, people overwhelmingly support the idea of photo enforcement, but they don’t think their own actions pose a problem.  They run reds because they’re “stressed,” think it will save time, are impatient or don’t think it’s a serious traffic offense.

It just takes one accident to turn a world upside-down…Respect the Red!
