At the regularly scheduled city council meeting on Monday, May 19, a public hearing was held to discuss and accept feedback on the proposed College Avenue Safety Enhancement project . After public and staff discussion, the city council voted to authorize Public Works to proceed with "Option A" which is a raised median with stone and weather resistant fencing on top, two mid-block crossings with HAWK signals, and the removal of left turns from College onto Rosemary, Wilson, and Bouchelle. The project will now move into final design phase with construction anticipated to begin in late spring of 2015 after the University of Missouri winter semester.

Alternative Evaluation - Alternatives A, B, and C - click here
Shows alternatives with similar characteristics of a full-corridor median and vertical element to channelize pedestrians; restricted left-turns; and mid-block, signalized crosswalks.
Alternative Evaluation - Alternatives D and F - click here
Shows alternatives with similar characteristics of a partial median providing a pedestrian haven in the center-lane; left-turn access similar to existing conditions; and mid-block, signalized crosswalks.
Alternative Evaluation - Alternatives G and E - click here
Shows alternatives with similar characteristics of a full-corridor median that restricts left-turns; and mid-block, signalized crosswalks. ALT F provides a vertical element with landscape opportunities. ALT H has no vertical element, limiting change of pedestrian behavior.
Alternative Evaluation - Alternative H - click here
Shows alternative with a full-corridor median and vertical element to channelize pedestrians; restricted left-turns with the exception of a fully-signalized intersection at Wilson Avenue to provide left-turn access into the East Campus neighborhood. No additional pedestrian crosswalks are included.
