January 14, 2014 -Utility corridor work will begin on Thursday, January 16 along Scott Blvd. near the intersection of Vawter School Road. This work will require the closure of the sidewalk on the north side of Vawter School road from just west of the convenience/gas station to Scott Blvd. and on the east side of Scott Blvd. from Vawter School to just south of the Boone County Fire Protection District Station 14. Motorist should use caution in the area as work will occur very close to the roadway. No roadway closures are scheduled as a result of this work. The work is scheduled to take 6-8 weeks and is weather dependent.
December 26, 2013 - Columbia Public Works has listened to our customers and have worked hard to incorporate their concerns into the construction plan. The Director of Public Works stated that the intersection of Vawter School Road and Scott Blvd. would remain open for through traffic during 90% of the project. There will be a three week window during the project, weather dependent, which the intersection must be closed to all traffic. While it will increase the overall cost of the project, our customers have stated they are willing to increase the cost to avoid a full closure of the intersection. Traffic will continue to move north from Scott to east on Vawter School Road/Nifong Blvd., and west on Vawter School Road to south on Scott Blvd. Due to construction limitations, the bridge and a portion of Scott Blvd. between Bellview Drive and Vawter School must still be closed to all traffic throughout the project.
On Tuesday, October 29, Public Works staff along with representatives from the Columbia Fire Department, Boone County Fire Protection District, and Columbia Water & Light hosted an Open House at Mill Creek Elementary School to present information on the Scott Blvd. Phase II project. Between 40 and 50 people attended the meeting.
