Back-in Parking to Help Bicyclists and Motorists
GetAbout Columbia is planning to try back-in parking on the south side of Ash Street between Seventh and Ninth streets. The purpose of this experimental treatment is to increase safety for bicyclists and motorists on the roadway.
Parking spaces will be removed from the north side of Ash. Because of the back-in parking design, the total number of parking places will remain nearly the same as the current 28 spaces. When the treatment is implemented there will be 27 parking spots. The current designated handicapped parking space on Ash Street will be moved around the corner onto Ninth Street, just south of Ash. In addition, bike lanes will be striped on both sides of Ash, increasing bicyclists’ east-to-west connectivity throughout the city.
